The Scent of Tomorrow

The Scent of Tomorrow

“Art has no boundaries.”

We are a team of art fans: a combination of a musical fan, a movie fan, and a modern art fan. We believe in the power of art. We are also a team of different cultural backgrounds, which further connects us in a common interest of cross-culture studies. Therefore, we have decided to do a project on cultural receptivity by adopting an all-in-one method we all like and enjoy- a musical film project! The objective of our project is 1) to investigate both cultural and literal difference of those songs by translating non-Japanese songs in Japanese, 2) to create a musical film by ourselves, and 3) to analyze the phenomenon of cultural receptivity by sharing our works in platforms (YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and communicating with people of all ages from different backgrounds.

Soohyun:
Art is such a strong medium to give our message.Especially for me, film is the most fascinating tool to visualize what we dream of.Therefore, Asuka, Eri and I decided to create this musical film series not just to entertain people, but to throwing questions and share our perspectives.

Asuka:

First, through musical, I want to give people courage, help people who has trouble or worry. ( for instance, we cast a spotlight on job seekers or people who has dream. We sing their feeling, and try to give them power to go forward.) Then I want to drew some problems that exist our society. ( for example, we can make coworkers as a main character and drew the problem of over working. We can also drew exchange student story .)

To use musical, it will be easy to gather people’s attention and I think they are likely to think about it more.

Eri:

I think it is interesting to study the cross-culture through a musical film production. I want to see to what extent a use of media like YouTube can create a public sphere where people freely share their ideas. Plus, I want learn the process of film making as well.

Tatsuro:

Since I was child, many musical has given me dream for future. And nobody own music. Music always fascinates everybody in the world. Happily, Now, I’m making that!!!!! I’m gonna make music of this musical to give big dream to the audiences.

Natsuki:

*Through cross cultural co-operation, being free from prejudice and understanding cultural diversity
• Through production of some musicals, I will understand people who have originated in different countries, and contribute to creation of a better multicultural society in Japan.
• Through showing children musicals or producing musicals with children, I will accelerate understanding of cultural diversity.
